Covid-19 Certificate to be Mandatory in Many places in Italy

With effect from 6 August, the Green certificate for access to many places in Italy, including restaurants and indoor bars, cinemas, gyms, museums, and public events, will be mandatory. This certificate is already mandatory for access to homes for the elderly and for civil or religious ceremonies.

This national certificate is obtainable after one will have received at least a first dose or after a negative test in the preceding two days. or if a person will have recovered from Covid for six months. And for a European travel certificate to be issued, a person will have received a second dose.

This development came about after doubling during the last week of the number of new cases of Covid-19 as a result of the Indian variant, with over 5,000 new cases reported in the past hours.

It is estimated that over half of Italy’s population has been vaccinated so far. Prime Minister Mario Draghi has come out against comments by politicians of the extreme right, among whom Matteo Salvini, who are urging youths not to get vaccinated.

128,000 persons have died of the virus in Italy since the start of the pandemic.
