The Sustainable Ecotourism Awareness (SEA) Project was presented during the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) National Conference, titled “The EU Ecolabel: The Official Standard for Green Tourism in Malta”, held in Rabat, Malta, on 19 February 2026.
During the conference, Tonio Cini, Operations Executive at Malta Hotels & Restaurants Association (MHRA) and Logisitics and Administrator of the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation (MTF) participated as a panellist in a dedicated discussion focusing on sustainability, green certification, and the future of tourism in Malta. Throughout the panel discussion, the Sustainable Ecotourism Awareness (SEA) Project was presented as an important initiative supporting tourism professionals, SMEs, and vocational education providers in building stronger sustainability practices and green skills across the sector.
The conference highlighted how sustainable certification frameworks such as the EU Ecolabel can help tourism establishments reduce operational costs, attract higher-value visitors, and prepare for evolving European sustainability regulations.
The SEA Project continues to promote practical sustainability solutions and innovative training opportunities through international collaboration between partners in Malta, Italy, and Türkiye. The project also includes the development of an AI-powered e-learning platform aimed at supporting the tourism industry’s green transition.
Participation in national and international conferences remains an important part of the project’s dissemination efforts, helping bridge policy, vocational education, and real operational challenges faced by the tourism sector.
