Morocco | Tourism receipts down 58% at the end of June

Tourism receipts fell 58.1% at the end of June 2021 to stand at 8.8 billion dirhams (MMDH), according to the Moroccan Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).

For the month of June 2021, tourism receipts increased by 15.2%, benefiting from the gradual reopening of national borders from mid-June and the launch of Operation Marhaba 2021, indicates the DEPF in its recent note. of conjuncture.

Thus, the fall in these revenues was attenuated to -10.5% in the second quarter of 2021, after -68.8% in the first quarter and -77.4% the previous year, specifies the same source.

As for tourist arrivals, they reached 71,225 tourists for the months of April and May 2021, after 1,710 during the same period of the previous year, of which 49.2% are MRE. As for the nights spent in classified accommodation establishments, they stood at 690,400 after 139,600, 16.8% occupied by non-residents. At the end of the first five months of 2021, arrivals and overnight stays fell by 74.5% and 55.7% respectively.

The gradual reopening of national air borders from June 15, 2021 and the exceptional arrangements of Operation Marhaba 2021 suggest a continuation of this recovery in the third quarter of 2021 without reaching the levels recorded in 2019.
