31 local restaurants have been recognized by the Michelin Guide, which annually recognizes the quality and culinary skills of the best restaurants in the world.

For the year of 2022, five restaurants in the Maltese Islands have earned the prestigious title of “One-MICHELIN Star Status.”

‘Under Grain’, ‘Noni’, ‘ION-The Harbor’, ‘De Mondion’ and ‘Bahia’ were the restaurants who received the title.

Restaurants who were awarded the “Bib Gourmand” award, showing good quality food for good value of money were: ‘Grain Street’, ‘Terrone’, ‘Rubino’ and ‘Commando.’

The details were announced during the official presentation of these awards by Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo and Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia.

Bartolo said that the Michelin Guide’s journey in Malta is a clear demonstration of Malta as a destination which cares about quality and sustainable tourism.

“These restaurants have recognized the importance of being at the forefront of satisfying the most demanding customers. It is worth noting that our country, despite its small size, has managed to have a level of restaurants that are recognized by the Michelin Guide,” Bartolo said, adding that the government’s vision for the tourism industry focuses on different experiences for tourists, particularly the gastronomic experience.

Gulia said that he is satisfied with the increasing number of local restaurants in the Michelin Guide.

He said that he is positive that the number of restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide will continue to increase, which will aid in the ultimate goal of making Malta a high-quality destination for tourists.
