The Mediterranean island of Malta has seen a 6% increase in tourist arrivals between July and September.

A recent survey published by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association, the MHRA and the Deliotte also confirms that this increase has also resulted in total expenditure of €871 million, a increase of 3.4% when compared to the same period in 2018. Nights spent in Malta have also increase by 2.5% since last year.

Malta has welcomed over 2 million tourists between January and September, the vast majority of which have opted for collective accommodations such as hotels, resulting in a 90% occupancy for the island’s hotels during this period. 35% have chosen to spend their vacation in private accommodations, and 17% have been housed by locals.

The latest MHRA Deliotte survey has also confirmed that while the Italian and British markets remain Malta’s top contributors, Ireland and Spain have accounted for a 26% and 21.5% increase in tourists, respectively.

MHRA President Tony Zahra has welcomed the findings, also stating that the Association is predicting a busy winter period for Malta’s hospitality industry.
