MHRA Welcomes Minister Byron Camilleri’s Proposal for On-the-Spot Fines

spot fines

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) supports the proposal by Dr Byron Camilleri, Minister within the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, to introduce on-the-spot fines for short-term visitors without a permanent residency permit who breach Maltese laws.

This measure reflects a long-standing MHRA recommendation to strengthen enforcement, protect community well-being, and safeguard Malta’s reputation.

Malta is welcoming, but respect for its laws and residents is non-negotiable. Immediate fines will serve as a clear deterrent and help maintain order and standards.

MHRA remains committed to working with Government to ensure effective and fair implementation.
