MHRA Condemns Violence: Safety and Rules Must Be Respected by All

In light of various incidents recently reported by media outlets, the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) strongly condemns any form of violence in or around restaurants and hospitality establishments.

MHRA underlines that rules must be respected by all. Outdoor dining is a policy actively promoted by government as many people prefer dining outdoors, but this must be implemented responsibly. In case of disputes or non-compliance, Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) inspectors can be called to ensure that regulations are respected. Furthermore, if anyone threatens guests, staff, or property, the police should be immediately called, as this is within the law.

The Association stresses that most restaurant operators in Malta are bona fide professionals who work hard throughout the year to entertain and welcome guests. The unacceptable actions of a few should not be allowed to tarnish the image of the majority who dedicate themselves to the sector.

MHRA therefore calls for action by the disciplinary authorities against anyone who acts violently in any form. Safety and security are not an option, they are essential in a destination that aims to attract quality tourism and guarantee the best possible experience for visitors, while ensuring balance with community needs.
