Malta Strengthens Tourism Safety Presence with Six New Electric Police Vehicles

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA), through funds jointly administered together with the Malta Tourism Authority and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, has supported the deployment of six new electric Hyundai Kona vehicles for use by the Malta Police Force across key tourism areas in Malta and Gozo.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening community safety, improving response capabilities, and enhancing the overall visitor experience within Malta’s tourism zones.

The newly deployed electric vehicles will operate in Sliema, Swieqi, Cottonera, Marsaxlokk, Paceville, and Gozo. These localities continue to attract significant numbers of visitors and residents throughout the year, particularly during the peak tourism season.

The investment also reflects a wider commitment towards sustainability and cleaner mobility solutions within public service operations. The use of electric vehicles supports national environmental objectives whilst contributing towards more efficient and modern policing infrastructure.

MHRA stated that strong collaboration between the tourism industry, public authorities, and law enforcement agencies remains essential in safeguarding Malta’s tourism product and maintaining confidence amongst visitors and the local community alike.

The Association welcomed the continued cooperation with the Malta Police Force, the Malta Tourism Authority, and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism in supporting initiatives that contribute towards a safer and more sustainable tourism environment.

The deployment of the vehicles is expected to assist police officers in improving visibility and accessibility within tourism hotspots, whilst also helping authorities address tourism-related incidents more effectively and efficiently.

Over recent years, Malta’s tourism sector has increasingly focused on the importance of quality, sustainability, safety, and community wellbeing as key pillars supporting the country’s long-term tourism strategy.

Through initiatives of this nature, stakeholders continue to reinforce the importance of maintaining Malta and Gozo as safe, welcoming, and high-quality destinations for international visitors and residents alike.
