Cyprus tightens travel restrictions for British visitors

Cyprus has introduced a new requirement for travellers to present a negative PCR result for Covid-19, taken within 48 hours of departure for the island, regardless of their vaccination status.

The move is a response to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, according to SchengenVisaInfo.com.

The UK Foreign Office advice page for Cyprus said travellers are also required to complete a Cyprus Flight Pass before travel.

Results from the private PCR test taken before travel can be in the form of an email or SMS, but the result itself and/or appointment letter must include the date and time when the test was taken.

Travellers aged 12 and above must also take a PCR test on arrival at the airport in Cyprus, costing €15-€19.

Test results should be available within three hours through the online platform and travellers must self-isolate in their accommodation until the result is available.

Upon arrival in Cyprus, all passengers from the UK will be given five self-tests to use daily after receiving a negative result from the airport PCR test.

Furthermore, 72 hours after arrival, provided the travellers have negative self-test results from the previous days, they must undergo a rapid test at a mobile unit of the Ministry of Health.

This is free to those presenting a boarding pass at the testing site.

The UK was placed on Cyprus’ red list last month following the emergence of the highly contagious Omicron variant of Covid.
