The MaQuaM training programme is an ECVET certified Education/Training programme for Marina Managers with the focus on Yachting and Coastal Tourism that involves companies and institutions from Italy, Malta, Greece, and Albania.

This Erasmus project is spearheaded by NAVIGO, a company for the innovation and development of yachting based in Italy, together with Provincia di Livorno Sviluppo srl, which is the lead partner, with the collaboration of the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation (Malta), Strategis – Maritime Center of Excellence (Greece), and IBIS Foundation (Albania) and supported by Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) and the Foundation of Transport in Malta.

MaQuaM aims to enhance the human resources of the nautical sector, answering to the new market in the global scenario. This is quickly developing in the yacht and superyacht production, and requests the integration of the shipbuilding production chains with the increasing importance of port and tourism services.

The “Manager of integrated services for boating and coastal tourism” training programme will cover various modules which includes responsibility for the tourist reception in the port and on the coast, for the organization and coordination of all activities, services and to the workers for the care of the vessel, its crew and boaters. Its role is focused on customer care services and in the configuration processes of the integrated offer of services, through commercial agreements with suppliers in the supply chain, port and tourism services.

Tutors include Deputy Chief Officer & Deputy Harbour Master Captain Fritz Farrugia, Technical Senior (Manager) Captain Mark Chapelle, Maritime Lawyer Dr Stephan Piazza LL.M. (IMLI), Senior Lecturer Dr Nicholas Baldacchino, International Tourism & Aviation Consultant Mr Joseph Galea and Business and Customer Strategy Consultant & Training Specialist Ms Greta Rapinett.

The training programme is being offered free of charge to 20 un-employed & 10 employed people residing in Malta & Gozo and is conceived as 300 hours of training, among which 180 hours In-Class and Online and 120 in internship, planned in Greece. The Training Course will be evening classes from first week of March and will cover 10 Nautical related modules, as follows:

1. IT tools (12h)
2. Business English (18h)
3. Configuration and composition of sailing and motor yachts and basic refitting techniques (24h)
4. Nautical Tourism: analysis and strategic planning (12h)
5. Legislation and sector regulations (12h)
6. Tourist ports: organization of resources and management of activities (16h)
7. Customer service: reception services and technical services for boaters (20h)
8. Project management (12h)
9. Marketing and communication for nautical tourism (24h)
10. Configuration of the offer of nautical and tourist services (30h)
