Mediterranean ObserverThe European Commission is launching the 2026 editions of the European Capital of Smart Tourism and European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism competitions, inviting cities across the EU and Single Market Programme (SMP) countries to showcase innovative smart and sustainable tourism practices.
Applicants must submit their proposals online by 30 May 2025 (17:00 CET). Shortlisted cities will present to a European Jury, composed of EU institutions and Member State representatives, which will select two winners, announced in November 2025.
Winning cities will receive branding and promotional support throughout 2026, including a promotional video, a hashtag sculpture, and visibility at EU and international levels. They will also join a network of smart destinations to exchange best practices.
