The Christmas lights in Republic Street and beyond have long been a festive highlight and have, for the past few years, sported a different lighting attraction each year. While preparations have long been underway and many have thrown in a few guesses, the main lighting attraction for this year remains unknown. Valletta’s Christmas lights are always switched on two weeks into November, and crowds always gather for the first glimpse of the Festive Season in Malta. The Christmas spirit in Malta’s Capital does not stop there.

Christmas Carols are played all through Republic Street and adjacent side streets, some of Malta’s top shopping destinations, providing visitors with the perfect Christmas present shopping companions. Last year, Merchants’ Street was also lit up with similar designs as those in Republic Street, thanks to efforts by The Merchants Street Business Community Association and the Valletta 2018 Foundation.

Restaurants, bars and retail outlets also provide their own entertainment, so a trip to Valletta will certainly keep you busy and wanting more.

We can expect many beautiful #potds in the coming weeks of how the Christmas Spirit has officially taken over every nook and cranny of the Mediterranean city, and thanks to the wonders of social media, Valletta’s infectious spirit will be shared with so many other around the world.
