MHRA Welcomes Direct New York–Malta Air Connection

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) welcomes the launch of the first direct air service between New York and Malta, describing it as a strategic milestone for the country’s tourism industry and international connectivity.

MHRA believes the new route represents a significant opportunity to strengthen Malta’s presence in the North American market, one of the world’s most valuable tourism source markets. American travellers are typically associated with longer stays, higher spending, and a strong interest in culture, heritage, gastronomy and authentic experiences, fully aligned with Malta’s vision of attracting higher-value tourism.

The Association also highlights the importance of the route for Malta’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. Direct connectivity is a key factor in attracting international conferences, corporate events, investment forums and business travel, further enhancing Malta’s competitiveness as a Mediterranean destination.

MHRA commends the Ministry for Tourism, the Malta Tourism Authority, Malta International Airport and all stakeholders involved for their commitment and vision in securing this important connection.

MHRA President Tony Zahra stated:
“The direct connection between New York and Malta is excellent news for our country. Beyond tourism, it strengthens opportunities for business, investment, conferences and cultural exchange. It supports Malta’s strategy of attracting quality visitors while reinforcing our position as a competitive and accessible destination in the Mediterranean. We congratulate all those involved and encourage continued efforts to strengthen Malta’s connectivity with strategic long-haul markets.
