The EU has approved new regulations designed to improve the working conditions of over 28 million people employed by digital labor platforms across the EU.
The platform work directive introduces greater transparency in the use of algorithms for managing human resources. It ensures that automated systems are overseen by qualified personnel and grants workers the ability to challenge decisions made by these systems.
Additionally, the directive will help clarify the employment status of platform workers, allowing them to access the labor rights they are entitled to. Member states will implement a legal presumption of employment, which will apply when evidence of control and direction by the platform is identified.
