The Mediterranean is all about beaches and the sea of opportunities for relaxation they bring to us. From the soft sound of waves crushing the sand to the cool sea water running over our toes like fine silk, Mediterranean beaches have been the centre of thousands of vacations.

We can almost smell the sun lotion and hear the sea gulls…

This was a particularly tricky one, but here are five Mediterranean beaches you MUST visit.

Ses Illetes Beach, Formentera Island, Spain

Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands just Northeast of Spain. Ses Illetes is the Mediterranean’s taste of the Caribbean, and is known as the ‘flagship beach’ of the island.

Being a long stretch of sand on a small peninsula, Ses Illetes is also one of the longer beaches in the Mediterranean, meaning you are certain to find a spot for yourself during peak seasons.

Spiaggia Del Principe, Sardinia, Italy

The Prince’s Beach was the favourite of Prince Karim Aga Khan. The beach is located just off the Emerald Coast of Sardinia, and offers crystal clear waters, and best of all, the perfect dose of peace and quiet.

Troia, Portugal

This one is for those a little more keen on adventure. The 18-km beach with wide stretches of sand will lead you straight to the deeper ends of the Mediterranean. If you’re lucky, you might spot a pod of dolphins on your way.

Kizkalesi, Turkey

Another one of the Mediterranean’s ‘uniques’. You will find your self staring history right in the face, seeing as the beach is facing two castles, one having been built just off the coast. A short stroll along the sand will help you explore the smaller castle built on the sand, but you cannot visit Kizkalesi without trying to swim to and from the castle in the water. We suggest you stay as late as you can. The sunset here is the very definition of paradise.

Spiaggia Rosa, Budelli Island, Sardinia, Italy

This unique beach is made of parts of granite, seashells and coral, all of which have birthed red sand which makes this location a must see. The only disadvantage is that, because it is part of the La Maddelena National Marine Park, it is only accessible by boat.
