Summer is over, and as we bid goodbye to the beaches, scorching hot temperatures, picturesque resorts and ice cold cocktails, we cannot help but feel our little heart break just a little at the thought.

The Mediterranean is known for its beaches, resorts, cuisine and landscapes which seem to scream ‘summer’ all year long. However, a ‘new’ side of this part of the globe seems to come alive beneath the crisp autumn air.

Holiday making in the Mediterranean between September and November offers endless advantages- from fewer crowds to cheaper packages.

Here is where you can make the most out of autumn in the Mediterranean:

Panarea, Aeolian Islands

One of the smallest Aeolian Islands, Panarea is a fraction of Lipari which, however small, manages to attract thousands of tourists all year long. The Villaggio Presitorico is a must, and you will get the perfect view of the endless choice of islets you can visit by boat during your stay.

Of course, you cannot have the full experience without the Cusiritati, where three generations of women have successfully run a white linen clothing hotspot. Your tip there will even be complete with a home-cooked Aeolian meal, ready to be washed down with some Malvasia wine.

Seville, Spain

The Andalusian Capital is another Mediterranean must this autumn, and not just because of the Flamenco and tapas! Enjoy a stroll through Alcázar or through Plaza de España if you’re feeling particularly lazy, but make sure you don’t miss out on a picnic by yourself in the Maria Luisa Park, or on the banks of the Guadalquivir…

Carcassone, France

Every fairy tale lover’s dream place. The medieval citée is perfect for a short autumn getaway to break from the routine one last time before the Holidays. From short walks through its narrowed cobbled streets to the endless choice of #potd spots from one of its grand towers, Carcassone will never, ever disappoint. End it all with a nice hearty meal in one of the taverns for a top medieval experience.

Florence, Italy

The birthplace of the Renaissance is also one of the Mediterranean’s top spots for a quick fall getaway. The Piazza della Signora and the San Lorenzo market are always bustling with activity, and are always the perfect pit-stop for a quick piadina or cheeky bistecca.
The Ponto Vecchio and Piazza Michelangelo are must-sees also. Good luck curing the holiday blues after this one.

Ljubljana, Slovenia

The Euro-Med region’s very own paradise of bike rides and street art, the Slovenian Capital should certainly be high up on your list of places to visit. From the first glimpse of Ljubljana castle, to your first walk through Tivoli Park, this is the city which will finally make you believe in love at first sight. You’re in for an extra treat if you are a keen coffee drinker. The river bank is full of cafés ready for you to try out.
