We’re going mad for Marrakech

It’s that time of the week again, and we’re packing our sunglasses and flannel trousers to accompany us to Marrakech, Morocco!

Marrakech is the fourth largest city in Morocco, following Casablanca, Fex, and Tangier, and is also the capital of the mid-southwestern region of the African country, located just north of the Atlas Mountains.

The exotic city offers a unique sense of adventure and a vibrant atmosphere, which are sure to capture the souls of any wanderer who walks through its cobbled streets.

You will be instantly charmed by the lively locals, historic sites, and don’t even get us started on those souks! We have to admit, this was a difficult card to play, but here are our four main reasons why Marrakech should be on your travel bucket list.

The Medina of Marrakech

Well it’s no wonder the Medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for Outstanding Value. The very spirit of Morocco lies within the Medina’s walls, and presents itself in the site’s various mosques, palaces, and other attractions. The Medina is also all about balance, meaning it can transport you back to the days of the Sultans by day, and host the party of a lifetime after sunset.

Djemaa el-Fna

The heart of the city which attracts tourists from all over the world. At night, this busy square transforms into a wonderland of snake charmers, story tellers and dancers who keep hundreds of weary travelers entranced. As the sun rises it then turns into a shopping haven for Moroccan souvenirs at cheap prices, and the perfect place to just sit back and soak it all in.

Saadian Tombs

The most popular tourist attraction in Morocco since 1917.

They have since been restored to be fit to attract millions each year, who gaze longingly at the vibrant tiles, old scripts and ancient carvings.

You can spoil yourself in a Moroccan Riad

The ultimate definition of ‘living like the locals’. While Marrakech attracts thousands of solo travelers and back-packers, it is primarily the place to be for a luxurious getaway. The Riads are traditional guesthouses built around a central courtyard, and while they are stylishly designed they will most certainly not break the bank. We suggest staying in the Kasbah district of the city, where you can lose yourself in the night sky with a cocktail in one hand and a bowl of fresh Tajine in the other. Bliss.
