Cyprus ‘deserves to be on Green List’

Cyprus’ deputy tourism minister says the island nation “absolutely deserves” to be added to the UK’s green list at its next review.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Savvas Perdios said the country had been “open” to UK travellers visiting and expects the country to make the list of destinations from which returning UK passengers do no need to self-isolate.

Cyprus, currently on the amber list, announced last month that it would open to Brits who were fully-vaccinated.

And Perdios said 52% of Cyprus’ adult population has now received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

He told the newspaper: “Cyprus absolutely deserves to be green-listed, we have made a lot of progress, especially over the last month.

“We are one of the few countries in Europe that has been so open to the UK in terms of travelling.

“France and Germany are not so comfortable in terms of opening borders to the UK. There is no chance that Cyprus is going to do something similar.

“We have guaranteed… that not only are flights not going to be stopped, but people are not going to be put in quarantine.”

UK visitors to Cyprus only risk quarantine if they test positive for Covid-19 while there. The Cypriot government has said the cost of the seven-day isolation, either in a hotel or hospital, would be covered.
