Travellers who are not vaccinated will no longer be required to present PCR or rapid test to enter Malta

Upon a joint recommendation of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the Health Authorities have extended the invitation for a second COVID-19 booster dose to persons over 60 years of age.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health said that the ECDC Advice notes the current variants of COVID-19, and the increase in cases worldwide, and therefore has advised that a second booster dose be given to immunosuppressed persons and those over 60 years of age, especially those vaccinated more than 4 months ago.

While clear benefits have been observed among those groups who receive a second booster, there is still no need for younger people to receive the booster.

The Health Authorities have appealed to those invited to receive the second booster, which invitation will be sent by post, to attend on the day and place indicated. In case of problems, one should call 145.

Meanwhile at European Union level, from 25 July 2022 passengers who do not have a vaccine certificate or recovery certificate, will no longer be required to present a PCR or a rapid negative test before entering the country.
