Malta International Airport recorded 7,310,289 passenger movements in 2019, therefore marking the tenth year of traffic growth for one of the Mediterranean’s competitive airports. This also meant an increase of 7.4% over passenger traffic in 2018.

The MIA said in a statement that this record growth also goes hand-in-hand with a 7.3% increase in seat capacity. The airport’s seat load factor also remained unchanged from the previous year, and now stands at a healthy 81.8%.

Throughout 2019, the MIA had also increased flight schedules for both the winter and the summer months, welcomed a new airline, launched 18 new routes spanning three continents, and introduced other developments aimed at further enhancing connectivity in the central Mediterranean.

Recent information published by the MIA also shows that the fastest growing months of 2019 were December (+15.2%), April (+10.5%), June (+8.8%), and October (+8.8%).

The largest contributor to full-year traffic was the month of August, which registered over 823,000 passenger movements.

Malta International Airport’s top markets for 2019 include The United Kingdom (+2.2%), Italy (+3.4%), Germany (+9.0%), France (+10.8%) and Spain (+17.3%).
