Malta launches over-50s training for agents

The Malta Tourism Authority has created an agent training course to help boost bookings to the island from the over-50s market.

The course features four lessons – Introduction; Where to stay; Dining out; and Venture out and about – and tools such as an events calendar which can be shared with customers.

Natalie Swinburne, trade marketing manager, UK and Ireland, said the course was created to instil confidence in the over-50s market to plan and book trips to Malta.

She said: “The pandemic has changed the travel landscape, and even the savviest silver traveller may be more apprehensive when it comes to planning a trip, so the advice and reassurance that a travel agent can bring is vital.

“We want to ensure our travel agent partners have all product knowledge and tools to understand the needs of the 50-plus traveller to generate those all important enquiries and bookings.”

Agents who complete the over-50s modules by May 14 have a chance of winning ten Maltese Gastronomy Goody Bags in a prize draw.

Bags include food ingredients sourced from the country, a notebook, pens, and a keyring.

The MTA has also updated its Reopening Course for agents before tourists come back to the country from June 1, Swinburne added.

Agents can read about the latest entry and destination requirements in the course.
