Balearic Islands reports summer tourism bounce back

The UK regained its position at the largest inbound market to the islands of Menorca and Ibiza in July with 35,691 and 75,336 arrivals respectively.

Palma airport also recorded a monthly increase in UK air arrivals with 178,807 passengers compared to just 18,021 in June.

The overall archipelago welcomed 291,731 British tourists in July, up by more than 9oo% over the previous month.

Balearic Islands tourism minister Iago Negueruela said: “Tourism is bouncing back in the Balearic Islands.

“July 2021 arrival figures are encouraging, and we believe that August statistics will also show a positive upturn.

“This is thanks in part to the swift reaction of the airlines that increased their capacity to the archipelago as soon as the islands were added to the UK’s green travel list and then committing to maintaining these connections.

“Additionally, we are very grateful of the support of both the UK and local travel industries who have helped stimulate the market after such a long lockdown period.

“As well as our sun and beach product, which is of course an important segment, we are also focusing our efforts on other key strategic products such as gastronomy, sports and health & wellbeing to showcase the diversity and quality of our tourism proposition in the autumn months.

“We have confidence in our loyal British visitors and a speedy tourism recovery.”
